BIO

TYMAINE CLAY
CEO / PRESIDENT,
BREAK-A-LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT

From comic book fan to award-winning, writer, director and producer, Tymaine Clay -- affectionately known as "Ty" -- has carved out an admirable career path fueled by his upbeat, easygoing nature, a “can-do” attitude, and innate creative talents. It was those same qualities that helped him break into the industry, landing an opportunity with Chris Rock, which in turn led to an exciting independent film project with Wanda Sykes and Ali LeRoi. And it was through this pivotal project that Ty discovered the power of independent filmmaking and the opportunity it provides to generate original content rarely explored mainstream.

Since then, Ty has built an eclectic body of work, spanning genres from crime drama to animation. But it’s in sci-fi, fantasy, and horror where he truly thrives -- exceling in crafting narratives, characters, and worlds within those frameworks. His penchant for incorporating elements of the three-pronged genre has generated the spine-tingling horror-thriller When the Fever Breaks -- which he wrote, directed, and produced. The film has won several awards at the New York International Film Awards and the Golden State Film Festival and can currently be seen on Amazon Prime, Tubi and YouTube Movies, where it has received millions of views. He also produced the action-packed streaming series Six Feet Down Under, and the gritty Latin Hip Hop crime drama, Platinum Illusions about the wynorrific allure of the Latin Hip Hop culture. In the animation world, Ty’s work includes the motion comic parody Trek Wars, which evolved into a live-action adaptation called Trek Wars: The Motion Picture.

All of Ty's projects are funneled through his Los Angeles-based production company, Break-A-Light Entertainment -- a tongue-in-cheek homage/reference to his early days on set when he was known for accidentally breaking lights on set. Today, he’s more focused on "breaking stories" -- crafting compelling narratives that resonate across all media.

Currently, Ty manages an impressive slate of projects through Break-A-Light. He’s in discussions to adapt one of his feature scripts into a television series. He is also working on a horror streaming mini-series and a new animation channel focused on bold, original storytelling.

And all of this came about because someone handed Ty an X-Men comic book when he was eight – an act that started a lifelong love affair with “all -things-Marvel.” What started as a childhood passion has now come full circle in the most unexpected way, adding another level of expertise to the wheelhouse of talent he brings to the table. Now considered an aficionado of various franchises under the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), he has consulted in an unofficial capacity as a confidential sounding board for some major MCU titles. With a critical eye for storytelling, his informed approach blends fan-based enthusiasm, audience engagement and a producer’s mindset to provide the most compelling audience experience.

While his work is grounded in independent filmmaking, Ty credits his work at studios like HBO, Disney, and CBS for providing a foundation of how to engage the audience and a mindset on how to build a successful business in the industry. A dedicated professional, Ty prides himself on being hands-on at every level of production where he can merge all of his creative talents. “I write like a producer, edit like a writer, and produce like a director,” he says. This holistic approach allows him to easily guide all key collaborators to a singular, unified vision in order to elevate the story or project to the next level.  Throughout the creative process, he continues to draw inspiration from all art forms and actively seeks out opportunities to share his extensive knowledge and practical experience with emerging talent -- both within and beyond the context of production.

Outside his professional pursuits, Ty has a strong appetite for adventure. He is passionate about escape rooms, board games, video games, role playing, especially Dungeons & Dragons, bouldering, bowling, pool, laser tag, and cosplay.

Next on his list: archery and fencing.

KAREN ARREDONDO
PRODUCER,
BREAK-A-LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT

Karen Arredondo is a producer, writer, and voice actor whose passion for animation lies in its boundless ability to tell stories that other mediums can’t. For her, animation is not just a format, it is a revolution in storytelling; an art form that thrives when freed from the restraints of formula and convention. With a background spanning acting, creative writing, and vocal performance, Karen brings a multidisciplinary approach to her work. She blends narrative insight, performance skills, and production sensibilities to help develop projects that are both imaginative and resonant.

Karen has over fifteen years of acting experience, cultivating a deep appreciation for character-driven narratives. Her years of experience on stage and behind the microphone shaped her instinct for nuance and performance. Consequently, it is infused in both her writing and producing work. In addition to acting and writing, Karen honed her skills as a voice actor, where her versatility and love for character work allow her to bring unique personalities to life, be it quirky, heartfelt, or larger-than-life.

What excites Karen most about her role in the animation division is the ability to build something different: a space where creativity takes precedence over market trends, and where new voices are given the freedom to flourish. She believes indie animation holds the power to carve new paths in the industry by telling stories that major studios often overlook; stories that break molds, defy expectations, and speak to audiences hungry for authenticity. Her goal is to help nurture projects that not only entertain but also expand what animation can be.

Equally important to Karen is her advocacy for diversity and representation in media. She is deeply committed to championing stories that reflect the richness of lived experiences across race, gender, sexuality, and disability. For her, diversity is an essential part of storytelling. It expands the emotional reach of a project by inviting audiences to see themselves in worlds that they might never have imagined possible. It allows projects to truly reflect the full breadth of human experience. Karen ensures the amplification of voices, too often sidelined in mainstream media, to ensure that animation remains a medium of inclusivity, innovation, and truth.

Outside of production, Karen draws inspiration from her own passions and hobbies. An avid gamer, she immerses herself in worlds of horror, tactical shooters, and expansive RPGs, finding in them the same combination of strategy, immersion, and storytelling that fuels her creative process. She is equally at home puzzling through escape rooms, gathering with friends for tabletop roleplaying campaigns, or binging her favorite anime and animated series. These interests aren’t just leisure. They’re sparks for new ideas, character dynamics, and narrative possibilities that inform her work in animation.

As a member of the animation division, Karen Arredondo brings both vision and collaboration to the team. She thrives on the energy of creative partnerships, seeing the best projects as those built from a shared love of story and a willingness to take risks.

Above all, Karen Arredondo sees animation as the perfect canvas for creativity without compromise. While major studios may pursue predictability, she sees the indie space as the home of possibility – a place where bold ideas and unconventional voices can shine, not as a secondary genre or a children’s format, but as a limitless canvas for imagination, inclusivity, and revolution.

For her, to be part of this movement is both a responsibility and a joy. Every character voiced, script drafted, and production supported is part of a larger mission: to ensure that animation continues to thrive as a medium for everyone, everywhere.
